Tales from the Broken Claw

Cozy Fantasy · 1 book (open-ended series)

More than a few travelers find themselves at the wide-open gates of North Pointe Common Towne, where the townspeople and their unusual shops are ready and waiting to help them get equipped, a little tipsy, and fully rested for their adventures. But Sam isn’t your usual adventurer—she’s looking to settle down after a career as a hard-fighting merc. And North Pointe Common Towne might just have a place for her.

A “low stakes,” non-epic fantasy powered by the smell of freshly baked bread, a cool tankard of ale, and a curiously welcoming town that holds a few closely guarded secrets.

Author's Notes

I love the idea of “cozy fantasy.” The idea comes from the “cozy mystery” genre (think “Murder She Wrote”), where there’s a fun adventure, but no real danger of anyone being killed or even seriously injured. Series like Pratchett’s Discworld fall firmly into the “cozy” bucket, I think, and of course Travis Baldree’s Legends & Latte’s set the modern tone for the genre. It’s all about a somewhat gentle adventure, discovering new friends and a new place in the world, and fairly, as Baldree puts it, “low stakes.” A quick, fun read, in a world I’ll definitely revisit time and time again. After all, the quiet village of Northe Pointe Common Towne has a lot of folks to introduce!
