I love the idea of LitRPG, but I’ve found just one series&empdash; The Completionist Chronicles by Dakota Krout—that I really enjoyed. Too many of the others were like reading a transcript of someone playing a game. Which is the point of the genre, I guess, but I just found it distracting, and I wanted more of a world underneath it all. And, there’s very little in the genre from science fiction—it’s nearly all fantasy. And I decided to write Endless Sky. It’s a bit heavier on plot and world-building within the virtual world of the game, and a bit lighter on memorizing game rules and character sheets (and I swear, one very popular LitRPG series literally starts with a game manual as prologue).
